Nordian is proud to announce that it supports two of the Netherlands' most prominent players in the market for lead and lithium battery powered solutions, Wetac and Intercel, to join forces after Wetac officially announced the acquisition of Intercel effective April 7.
Both companies' success is grounded in offering quality and trustworthy battery powered solutions, a personal approach, and a commitment to building long-term relationships with clients. The combination will unite the strengths and capabilities of both companies, creating a stronger platform for growth in the rapidly expanding European market and taking a significant step towards realizing their growth ambitions. In 2023, Nordian acquired a majority stake in Wetac, and has since then been the company’s partner.
Both Wetac and Intercel are well-established companies with each 35+ years of experience. Together the two companies play leading roles in four key segments:
Motive (cyclic batteries for sectors like mobility, cleaning, agri, etc.),
Standby (back-up power for UPS in telecom & datacentres, healthcare, security, etc),
Storage (energy storage systems for grid congestion, peak shaving, etc.),
Electrification (custom lithium battery solutions for the electrification of machinery).
By January 2026, both entities will be fully integrated and operate under the new name, ‘Intercel Group.’
Delivering battery powered solutions for the energy transition
"Together we are entering an exciting new chapter in our journey," said Jeroen Pietryga, CEO of Wetac, who will become the CEO of the newly formed Intercel Group. "The continued electrification that we see as part of the energy transition increases the demand for battery powered solutions across Europe. By joining forces with Intercel, we will not only strengthen our leadership in the Dutch market but also extend our product portfolio and services across Europe with the addition of Storage (ESS) and Electrification. This integration will also allow us to invest in critical areas of the business, like innovation (in product offering) and sustainability, enabling us to deliver even better solutions”.
Vincent Kleintjens, CEO of Intercel, added, "Over the last couple of months I experienced that the company culture of Wetac, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong customer focus, is a perfect fit with Intercel. Together, we have a deep battery expertise in both lead and lithium and a shared commitment to quality and customer service. This integration will allow us to create new opportunities for our employees and enhance the value we deliver to our customers by tapping into the European network of Wetac."
Nordian, shareholder of Wetac , also commented on the acquisition: "We have supported Wetac since 2023 as a partner for the company to strengthen its strategic profile and offering. This acquisition will create a market-leading platform in the battery solutions space. We are excited about the long-term growth potential and the strengthened market position resulting from this deal" says Gregor Beusmans, partner of Nordian.
